Play on Day 2 of Oval Test suspended following Queen’s death

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the England Cricket Board announced that the second day of the third and final Test between England and South Africa on Friday, September 9, stands suspended. The opening day of The Oval Test was washed out without a ball being bowled due to persistent rain. England had won the toss and opted to field. The series is currently level at 1-1.

The ECB statement read: Following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Friday’s play between England and South Africa Men at The Oval, along with all scheduled matches in the Rachel Heyhoe Flint Trophy, will not take place,” the ECB said in a statement. For fixtures beyond Friday, updates will be provided in due course.
