On August 10, 2007, Anil Kumble scored his maiden Test ton, an achievement that had eluded the batter of considerable potential for 17 years. The ball was darted wide, Kumble jumped forward to flat-bat it along covers, and the century was completed thanks to a bottom edge that streaked past England wicketkeeper Matt Prior. Kumble flung himself back to the crease as a reflex response in order to stave off the stumping chance but the ball was already trickling down towards the boundary. Kumble was quite ecstatic to have finally tick the box he’d always had the capability to do.
