KL Rahul, off the back of an imperious 129 in India’s first innings, represented a key obstacle to England gaining a stranglehold on this second Test. Enter Mark Wood, who combined his searing pace with some movement off the pitch to find the opener’s outside edge and eventually Jos Buttler’s gloves. Wood had come into the attack early, with Ollie Robinson bowling just two overs with new ball, and Joe Root’s faith was wonderfully rewarded as the Durham man found his groove almost immediately.
