Jason Roy hits an international century after 14 innings

Chasing a competitive target of 299, England were off to a solid start against South Africa in the first ODI in Bloemfontein. Openers Jason Roy and Dawid Malan helped England rack up 53 runs in the first nine overs, and the resurgent right-hander went on to make his first century in 14 international innings. Harry Brook, however, couldn’t make a splash on debut, bagging a three-ball duck.

In the first half, Rassie van der Dussen brought up his fourth century, while David Miller scored 53 to take the Proteas to 298/7 in 50 overs after electing to bat first. Sam Curran took three wickets including the prized scalp of Quinton de Kock at the top.
