Marnus Labuschagne extended his rich vein of form, scoring 79 on a curtailed opening day of the New Year’s Test in Sydney that saw just 47 overs of play. Australia’s prolific No.3 added 135 for the second wicket with Usman Khawaja (54*) before he nicked behind a lifter from Anrich Nortje in the final session. Moments later, umpires took the players off the field once more, this time due to a steady drizzle. Having made a cautious start, Labuschagne launched an attack on the two spinners, hitting as many as six boundaries in the first eight overs after Lunch.
