Brisbane Heat opener Josh Brown kickstarted 2023 with an exhibition of range-hitting at the Gabba as he smashed Sydney Sixers for a 19-ball half-century on Sunday. Brown, playing just his second BBL match, hit six maximums and four boundaries – to gallop to 62 runs from 23 deliveries at an astonishing strike rate of 269.57. Some of the sixes from Brown landed on the stadium’s second tier.
Brown’s whirlwind knock laid the platform for Brisbane Heat’s middle order as they racked up 224 in 20 overs leaving Sydney Sixers with a daunting task of chasing a 225-run target.
