Australia buried South Africa under a mountain of runs on the third day of the Boxing Day Test as Alex Carey scored his maiden Test match century, setting the hosts up for a declaration with a formidable 386-run first-innings lead. To make matters worse, South Africa lost captain Dean Elgar for a duck in the seven overs of play possible before showers lashed the iconic MCG. The hosts could've had another wicket had David Warner not been deceived by the outswing of a low catch at first slip.
