Third umpire comes to batter’s rescue after zing bail falls on its own

Melbourne Renegades captain Nic Maddinson was left bemused midway through the ninth over, as he found that one of the zing bails had fallen on its own after he middled a pull shot behind square leg off the bowling of Brisbane Heat quick Mark Steketee, Maddinson turned around to see the stumps lit up and one bail lying on the turf.

A stunned Maddinson began trudging off the park before replays showed the batter’s feet and bat — as well as the ball itself — had not made any contact with the stumps when he played the shot. Instead, the bail had mysteriously fallen without any intervention.
