Kane Williamson relinquishes New Zealand Test captaincy

Kane Williamson has stepped down as the New Zealand Test captain, with Tim Southee set to replace him at the helm. Williamson, who took over the role in 2016 from Brendon McCullum and has led New Zealand to 22 wins in 38 Tests, will continue to lead the side in the white-ball formats.

New Zealand enjoyed their finest hour in Test cricket under the leadership of Williamson. They reached the top of the Test rankings in 2021 before going on to defeat India in the final of the inaugural ICC Test Championship in June that year.
