Joe Root enters IPL auction with an objective to revive T20 career

England cricketer Joe Root has put forth his name for the upcoming IPL auction, scheduled to be held on December 23 in Kochi. The former England captain had enrolled himself in the IPL auction in 2018 but found no takers.

Due to a packed international schedule, Root’s appearances in T20 tournaments have been few and far between. He did play in the Big Bash League for Sydney Thunder in 2018-19 managing 93 runs, alongside featuring in The Hundred for Trent Rockets. Root has a decent record for England in T20Is (893 runs at an average of 35.72) but has been typecasted as a longer-format player and has not played for the national side in T20Is since May 2019.
