Steve Smith attempted a switch hit off a free hit bowled by Adil Rashid in the second ODI at the SCG. Smith resorted to unorthodoxy when he was on 57 in the 32nd over of the innings. He could not make a connection, however, and immediately let out a shriek. Smith missed out on a ton, falling on 94(114) with five boundaries and one gigantic six, but Australia would be happy to see the experienced campaigner back amongst the runs. Anchoring the chase, he scored 80 in the first ODI at Adelaide which Australia won to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
