Veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has been appointed the new captain of the Punjab Kings franchise for the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League on Wednesday. Dhawan, who apparently is no longer in the T20I scheme of things, will replace opener Mayank Agarwal as the leader of the Punjab-based franchise in the 2023 edition.
Dhawan scored an impressive 618 runs at a strike rate of 145 for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2020. The veteran Indian opener was roped in by Punjab Kings for a whopping 8.25 crore at the mega auction, and went on to make 460 runs in 14 matches in IPL 2022.
