Tim Southee smacked his first ball, and the last ball of New Zealand’s innings, for a four to help New Zealand to 167/7 – a fairly decent score given the kind of turbulent start they had at 15 for 3 in 4 overs. It was virtually a single-handed effort by Glenn Phillips, who smashed his second T20I century to take New Zealand to a competitive total. The rest of the batters struggled, with Daryl Mitchell’s 24-ball 22 being the second-best score. For as well as Sri Lanka bowled, they were let down by the fielders, who reprieved Glenn Phillips twice.
