With six overs to go in the innings, and the score reading a promising 152 for 3, Australia seemed to be in the ascendancy. The equation came down to 51 from 35 when Marcus Stoinis smacked a six over midwicket. However, in the same over, Mark Wood prised out the dangerous Stoinis and another pinch-hitter in Tim David to lift England’s spirits. On both occasions, Wood pounded the deck hard and that made it difficult for the batting duo to crack horizontal-bat shots, like the one Chris Woakes played off Kane Richardson earlier in the night.
