Alex Hales and Jos Buttler have provided a solid start to England after the visitors were asked to bat first by Australia captain Aaron Finch in the opener of the three-match series. Buttler marks his return to the England team after sitting out the entire 7-match rubber against Pakistan. The teams are in the last leg of their preparation for the all-important T20 World Cup.
Australia have rested Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell for the first T20I and England have taken full advantage of the depleted bowling resources so far, with the white-ball captain Buttler smacking 62 off just 38 balls.
