India were left needing 30 in six balls in the opening one-dayer at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Sanju Samson did well to pick 20 as he finished unbeaten on 86 β his highest ODI score, but South Africa had managed to secure a 9-run win. Shamsi struggled his flight and lines and lengths after Shreyas Iyer took the attack to him, returning figures to 1 for 89 from 8 overs.
The victory, however, was setup earlier by David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen, who stitched an unbeaten 139-run stand for the fifth wicket to propel the visitors to a healthy 249/4 in a rain-affected 40-over game.
