Half-hearted stab leads to Quinton de Kock chopping on

Quinton de Kock chopped one onto his stumps, Rilee Rossouw nicked behind trying to drive away from the body and David Miller was clean bowled by an inswinger as Arshdeep Singh ripped apart South Africa’s top-order. Tristan Stubbs was the third to bag the golden duck on the bounce as Deepak Chahar picked his second in as many overs.

Hobbling at 9 for 5, South Africa welcomed any runs whatsoever with open arms. Adien Markram (25 off 24) and Wayne Parnell’s (24 off 37) took them to 30/5 at the end of powerplay but it was Keshav Maharaj who smacked two sixes and five boundaries in his 35-ball cameo of 41 to breathe life into the Proteas’ innings.
