Ollie Robinson leads England off the field by raising the match ball. He receives a standing ovation from the Oval crowd for his fifer. The conditions were conducive to seam bowling and the hosts exploited it superbly. Robinson was the pick of the bowlers, his lines and lengths imacculate. He got the ball to move both ways off the pitch and South Africa were reduced to 36/6 in just over an hour. Marco Jansen batted with composure and top-scored with 30 as he was involved in a couple of mini-partnerships with Khaya Zondo and Keshav Maharaj.
Post lunch, however, Broad made life difficult for the batters with seam movement and extra bounce. There were a couple of catches put down off his bowling but the senior pro finished with a four-fer nonetheless.
