Anrich Nortje’s searing spell facilitates South African victory

Key to South Africa’s accelerated victory in the Lord’s Test was a scorching spell from Anrich Nortje, which saw England lose three wickets within 14 minutes. A scoreline of 81/3 nosedived to 86/6, and as glorious as this summer has been for England, they found it difficult to stage a comeback after the triple whammy. It was Nortje who wielded his willow earlier in the morning and scored 28 to push them to a total of 326 and a lead of 161, which proved more than enough with their on-song bowling attack.

Brief Scores: England 165 (Pope 73; Rabada 5-52, Nortje 3-63) & 149 (Lees 35, Broad 35; Nortje 3-47, Rabada 2-27) lost to South Africa 326 (Erwee 73, Jansen 48; Broad 3-71, Stokes 3-71) by an innings & 12 runs.
