Going to Tea on the second day of the Lord’s Test, South Africa were firmly in command at 158/2, trailing only by seven runs in the first innings. In an extended 150-minute afternoon session, South Africa made 131 runs, most of it thanks to a solid 85-run opening stand between Deal Elgar and Sarel Erwee. The latter started the day on a poor note by dropping Ollie Pope in the slips but later found himself batting at 60* off 116 balls as South Africa inched closer to England’s underwhelming first-innings total of 165.
