Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell put on a partnership to help West Indies regain some momentum in their 191-run chase. The former swung across the line to a Hardik Pandya delivery for a six, struck a boundary wide of short thirdman off Jadeja while Powell deposited one over the long-on fence for a maximum. But looking to play a late cut off Ashwin, Pooran fell as he handed a catch to the ‘keeper. Hetmyer, playing his first international game since November 2021, hit a straight six off Ashwin. But Powell did not pick a googly from Ravi Bishnoi and fell to the wrist spinner off his first ball while Hetmyer mistimed a shot off Ashwin to give the offspinner his second scalp.
