With India’s new-ball merchants not getting a lot of help from the wicket, the West Indian openers were able to play their shots with a lot of freedom as they got off to a rollicking start. Avesh Khan gave away 36 in his first spell of three overs, which included seven fours. Some loose bowling allowed Shai Hope to collect a few boundaries while Nicholas Pooran struck a couple of sixes as the pair helped West Indies keep the scoreboard moving at a fair clip.
Brief scores: West Indies 311/6 in 50 overs (Shai Hope 115, Nicholas Pooran 74; Shardul Thakur 3-54) lost to India 312/8 in 49.4 overs (Axar Patel 64*, Shreyas Iyer 63, Sanju Samson 54; Alzarri Joseph 2-46) by 2 wickets.
The West Indies players did what they’re best known for, humongous hitting!
