Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan, the two overnight batters, played with class and composure to blunt the early threat of the spinners with a hard new rock. The duo essayed some delightful drives off Ramesh Mendis through covers to keep the scorecard ticking. With Pakistan needing just 11 runs to seal the deal, the heavens opened up and it started raining. But the rain soon permitted play as Shafique and Mohammad Nawaz knocked off the remaining runs.
