Dinesh Chandimal hammered an unbeaten 206, his only double ton and highest Test score, as Sri Lanka gained a strong lead of 190 runs against Australia in the first innings before debutant left arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya made mincemeat of the visitors in the second, handing them a glittering series-equaling victory. Jayasuriya ended the match with twelve scalps after Australia exploded rather dramatically to lose 9 wickets in the final session, bringing the match to a swift conclusion. Australia's reply had started in solid fashion before Ramesh Mendis trapped David Warner LBW minutes before the Tea break, after which the innings went pear shaped altogether.
