Australia have scored almost 100 runs per session and that should give you a fair idea of their approach throughout the opening day in Galle. After opting to bat, the tourists lost both openers inside the first session but the ever-reliable pair of Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith didn’t disappoint. While Labuschagne rustled up his first ton away from home, Smith crafted his first hundred since January 2021. Alex Carey looks assured and positive at the crease and if Smith can carry on his good work, Australia will be eyeing anything over 450 to bat the hosts out of the game.
It’s been a LONG time coming, and what a shot to bring it up.
