Monday saw an absolutely ruthless and confident side of this England team as they polished off 259 from their target of 378 in just 57 overs. England lynchpins Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root have carried on from where they left off on the evening of the fourth day. India needed to make hay in the early overcast conditions, but instead England have inched closer to the target without much hassle. They hit five fours in as many overs in this first half hour’s play. Joe Root has dabbed a couple of fours to the third man region to bring up his 11th century since 2021 in Tests.
