Bairstow greets Siraj with a pull behind square

Weather permitted only 12 full overs of play during a start-stop rain-hit second session on Day 2 at Edgbaston but Jasprit Bumrah struck in each of the little phases of play, his exceptional 3 for 30 reducing England to 60/3 after India racked up 416 in the first innings. Bumrah struck with his first ball in the second session when he drew Zak Crawley into a loose drive away from the body. The nick flew waist-height to Shubman Gill at third slip. The ensuing hat-trick ball – Bumrah had castled Alex Lees with his last ball before Lunch – came into new batter Joe Root with the angle and seamed away nearly brushing the outside edge. Bairstow, given the form he’s in, started positively after the interval.
