Zac Crawley reprieves Hanuma Vihari in the cordon

India lost their openers Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara in the morning session on Day 1 of the rearranged fifth Test against England at Edgbaston. James Anderson bagged both the scalps. Hanuma Vihari, who was handed a reprieve once in the slip cordon by Zac Crawley, broke the shackles with a boundary off Matthew Potts to move into the double digits before rain brought an early end to the session.

Earlier, England had no reluctance in bowling first after winning the toss with the conditions being slightly overcast. While England headed into the Birmingham Test on the back of three Tests against New Zealand, India had only a warm-up game to get themselves attuned to these bowler-friendly conditions.
