New Zealand frittered away an excellent opportunity chance to stay on top in the Headingley Test as England stormed back in the final session for the second successive day. By Tea on Day 3, New Zealand were leading by 94 runs with nine wickets intact. However, the hosts retaliated in the rain-hit final session as the visitors managed to add only 43 more runs at the cost of four key wickets. Tom Latham had batted in sublime fashion in the post lunch session, adopting a positive approach to score a boundary-filled 76, but he was dismissed on the first ball after Tea.
