Facing the herculean task of chasing down 499, Netherland’s reply got off to a breezy start with Vikram Singh driving Reece Topley confidently through point off the back foot for four in the second over as he and Max O’Dowd took the Dutch to 13 without loss after 2 overs. Singh’s promising start was, however, cut short in the next over as he lost his off stump to a David Willey ball that jagged back in sharply off the seam. Dawid Malan too claimed his first ODI wicket to complete the formalities of the massive 232-run win. The hosts have just a day to take stock of the magnitude of their defeat and reconsider their plans before the second ODI on Sunday.
