Alex Lees has scored a couple of fours through cover off New Zealand’s most experienced seamer Southee while Ollie Pope also pierced the infield off Trent Boult for three. The left-arm pacer did find the outside edge of Pope’s bat twice but the ball landed short of slips. England have gone past the 100-mark and the century stand is raised a short while later.
Yesterday, Daryl Mitchell missed out on his maiden first-class double ton. He made the most of the chances that England missed, amassing 190 and putting on a sizeable 236-run partnership with Tom Blundell (106) to help New Zealand finish with a grand total of 553 on Day 2.
