James Anderson started off proceedings with a maiden to Tom Latham while Will Young punched a short of length delivery from Stuart Broad for a four past backward point to get off the mark. Meanwhile, Anderson beat Young with a superb delivery that pitched on a good length and jagged away. Latham scored his first run off the 11th delivery he faced, punching it to point and sprinting off for a quick single. He also punched off the backfoot through the same region off Broad for his maiden boundary and followed it up with a stylish on-drive for another four.
