The richochet off Ben Stokes’ willow took England closer to the finish line in the 2019 World Cup grand finale against New Zealand. In what was an encore of the incident, a throw was inadvertedly parried off Stokes’ bat as he rushed to make his ground at the non-striker’s end. Trent Boult, the bowler, Joe Root and Stokes all saw the lighter side of it and had a good laugh about the resembling event, although it didn’t result in extra runs this time around. Stokes and Root even put their arms up in apology to mimic the latter’s reaction in the summit clash earlier.
