England were restricted to 116/7 against New Zealand, in the arrears by 16 runs at Stumps on Day 1 of the first Test at Lord’s. Kyle Jamieson dealt the opening punches to tarnish England’s bright start, dismissing Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope moments after Tea. Colin de Grandhomme and Tim Southee accounted for Joe Root and Alex Lees, respectively. Southee also dismissed England skipper Ben Stokes before Trent Boult struck twice in an over to remove Jonny Bairstow and Matthew Potts, leaving the hosts gasping. The pacers led New Zealand’s fightback adroitly to bring the contest on an even keel.
