Ahead of the Women’s T20 challenge which kicked off yesterday in Pune, star India batter Smriti Mandhana said the tournament could be a precursor to the women’s Indian Premier League that will begin in 2023. Earlier this year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India green-lighted the commencement of the Women’s IPL, although details about the tournament are yet to be known. Mandhana, who leading the Trailblazers, said the women’s T20 challenge played a platform for up-and-coming talent such as Shafali Verma who would go onto play for India.
