Left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel is set to return to New Zealand's centrally contracted list for the 2022-23 season while James Neesham has been dropped from the 20-player shortlist. Retired veteran Ross Taylor will not have his name on the contract list for the first time since 2006.

Neesham hasn't played a Test since 2017, having featured in just nine T20Is over the last 12 months for the Blackaps including the World Cup, where he huffed and puffed to 92 runs in seven innings at a strike-rate of 135.29, to go with three wickets with an economy of 8.20.
