New England Test captain Ben Stokes has confirmed that his predecessor and batting lynchpin Joe Root will walk in to bat at No.4 in the batting order when the team faces New Zealand next month at Lord’s to kick off the home summer. Amid England’s perpetual batting woes, Root had moved up a rung to one-drop in the series against West Indies despite a prolific 12-month period preceding it, which saw him rack up six Test tons since the start of 2021. This could be a pivotal move for the fourth ranked batter in the world.
