Australia underwent a hard yakka as they spent 239 overs on the field bowling on the dead Rawalpindi track. Pakistan batters made merry before the sides had to settle for a draw in the opening Test. Captain Pat Cummins had to employ nine bowlers on the final day as the hosts cantered to 252 for no loss. Imam-ul-Haq made centuries in both innings, Abdullah Shafique got his maiden Test ton while Azhar Ali scored 185 in the first innings. However, no Australian batter could reach three figures in the match even though Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne came close.
