Australia began steadily in response to England’s shambolic 185, with Marcus Harris and David Warner forging a 54-run partnership before the latter fell prey to an innocuous James Anderson delivery. The poke came out nowhere in the dying moments of the day as Anderson returned to redeem whatever little confidence there remains for England in the Boxing Day Test. Warner hung his bat out tentatively and found the outside-edge dipping low to gully, where Zac Crawley did well to dive in front, in time.
