Joe Root was livid with himself for being dismissed the exact way he’s been working all week to avoid. The England skipper fished outside the off-stump only to nick Mitchell Starc behind this time around. It’s the angle across him that did the trick. He couldn’t convert his fifty once again. Starc gets his first wicket of the Boxing Day Test and it’s the big fish. It’d been an excellent innings from Root – his third fifty in the series – but England needed him to kick on after that start given how he’s kept Australia at bay.
