Joe Root criticised his England team for committing the same errors that led to failure in the first Ashes Test after they were humbled in the Adelaide day-nighter. Despite an innings of immense restraint from Jos Buttler, who scored 26 off 207 balls before trodding onto timber with his heel with an improbable draw in sight, England lost by a heavy margin of 275 runs. Root admitted his side had fallen short in every facet of the game, dropping key chances, bowling the wrong lengths and batting poorly.
