England needed to bat long after conceding a lead of 278, and they did so with aplomb. Their backs were against the wall after the openers fell for not many but the resilient duo of Joe Root and Dawid Malan dug deep and saw the visitors to safety at the end of day three. Australia tried six bowlers, but nothing could dislodge the English pair. Root (86*) has rarely put a foot wrong while Malan (80*) has played second fiddle to perfection as England stage a valiant recovery in the Gabba Test.
🔚 STUMPS, DAY THREE 🔚
A brilliant unbeaten third-wicket stand has helped England fight back at The Gabba, with Root (86no) and Malan (80no) seeing them close on 220-2. 🏴
