India declared their second innings at 234 for 7 in the first Test in Kanpur. Shreyas Iyer and Wriddhiman Saha got fifties and were ably supported by R Ashwin and Axar Patel. 284 on this wearing pitch was bound to be a tough ask, and New Zealand’s hopes of survival were dashed early on as Will Young copped a leg-before verdict off Ashwin. Young and Tom Latham took their own sweet time in opting for the review, but it was too late by the time they asked the on-field umpire to go upstairs. The ball was missing leg, as if to rub salt into Young’s wounds.
