In what was an attritional afternoon session, New Zealand headed into the Tea break unscathed at 72/0, trailing by 273 in the Kanpur Test. After Ajaz Patel removed R Ashwin and Umesh Yadav in quick succession to wrap up India’s innings for 345, the hosts would have aspired to pick early wickets. However, on a track where the occasional delivery is keeping low, Tom Latham and Will Young showed great batting aptitude to wade through a tricky phase and help New Zealand wipe a decent amount of runs out of India’s first-innings total.
