Shreyas Iyer is the latest addition to the pantheon of Indian batters to have scored a ton on their Test debut. He is the 16th Indian player to register the feat. Iyer dealt in boundaries on day two, punishing looseners from Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson to notch up three figures in a flash. With wickets tumbling at the other end, India would have wanted Iyer to kick on and make a daddy hundred, but a slightly casual drive brought an end to his wonderful innings on 105.
