Evin Lewis hammered a fifty off 33 balls to get West Indies off to a rapid start, but they were held back by Lendl Simmons, who had lumbered to a 27-ball 12 at the halfway mark after South Africa opted to bowl first in Dubai. The southpaw clubbed six maximums and three fours in his rampant 35-ball 56 before holing out to Kagiso Rabada in the deep. West Indies would rely on the likes of Nicholas Pooran and Simmons to shrug off their rust and help build on the momentum.
