Sri Lanka bagged their second win in the T20 World Cup to progress to Super 12s. Wanindu Hasaranga and Pathum Nissanka struck half-centuries to lift Sri Lanka to a fighting score of 171 for 7 before the bowlers put on a clinical show to sink Ireland by a bumper margin of 70 runs. Kevin O’Brien fell in the first over, Paul Stirling in the third and Gareth Delany in the fifth. At 32 for 3, Ireland’s chase couldn’t quite take flight and the early blows had a telling impact. They could never recover from the pushback and conceded victory to the islanders without much mitigation.
