Aravinda de Silva can be termed as the first superstar of Sri Lankan cricket as he was a notch above the rest with the willow. Before Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene and Sanath Jayasuriya stormed on the scene, it was him winning Sri Lanka games of cricket and hogging the spotlight. Born on October 17, 1965, de Silva was not only Sri Lanka's World Cup 1996 hero but also a top-grade cricketer who inspired a generation in the island to take up the sport. In the showpiece tournament, he amassed 448 from six games at 89.60 while picking up 4 wickets to boot.
