Faf du Plessis produced a superb boundary catch for the Chennai Super Kings against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday afternoon, pouching the ball on the boundary and lobbing it back into play so as not to concede a six. It was done with such apparent ease, though, that the most striking part of this moment of brilliance was the regularity with which we see it in the modern game. With the amount it is practiced by professional players, chances similiar to du Plessis’s are becoming genuine opportunities rather than jaw-dropping, once-in-a-blue-moon grabs. It is important to recognise the genius, though, no matter how often we see it.
