Danny Briggs, who signed for Warwickshire from Sussex in just October of last year, is producing a potentially Championship-deciding performance for his new county against Somerset. Coming in at nine with the bat, the Bears were hunting seemingly in vain for a fourth batting point, but Briggs struck 53 not out, including 20 runs of the 110th over, to gain his side the vital point and put them in pole position to win the title. The home side now need to achieve maximum bowling points by taking four wickets within 33 overs, with Somerset ending the day on 239/5. Briggs himself took 2-40 with the ball on the evening of day two to set his team on the right course.
